Why is the Dream Home Showcase Moving to January Next Year?

As you are probably aware, the Madison Area Builders Association (MABA) 2017 Dream Home Showcase will be held January 27-29, 2017 at the Alliant Energy Center. (This does not impact the 2016 Dream Home Showcase, which will occur as planned at the Alliant Energy Center, March 4-6, 2016.)

Everyone at MABA is excited about this change for 2017 and knows it was the right thing to do to grow the Expo and make it an even more valuable event for our exhibitors. However, please know that it was not an easy decision. We’d like to take this opportunity to explain exactly why we decided to move the 2017 MABA Expo:

  1. This earlier date will benefit our exhibitors since January is when people begin considering building and remodeling projects. However, we absolutely wanted to keep the Expo at the Alliant Energy Center—our area’s premier location.
  2. Additionally, the only other dates available in January conflicted with NFL playoffs AND we know this is not ideal for consumers or exhibitors.  If we did not book the available January 2017 weekend at the Alliant Energy Center, another organization—possibly another building show, or even the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI)—would have taken this great weekend at this prime location.
  3. The Lake Home and Cabin Show will be held in an adjacent building concurrent with the 2017 MABA Dream Home Showcase. Together both events will attract more attendees!

Many people have asked about combining the MABA and NARI shows. Know that our Board of Directors and Dream Home Showcase Committee approached NARI’s leadership in both 2014 and 2015 to explore the possibility of combining shows.  At this time NARI is not interested in combining—however, MABA’s leadership remains committed to further exploring the opportunity to combine shows when/if NARI is ready to do the same.
